PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF: WHAT IS YOUR NAME, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, WHAT DO YOU DO?

My name is Carles Puig. I am an architect and I’ve exercise my profession since 1997 from Barcelona. I have combined the work of architect, along with a pedagogical activity, giving classes in different schools of Architecture and Design. Currently, together with Maria Antònia Mir, designer of spaces, I am focused on the development of architectural projects and their subsequent construction.

The purpose of all our projects is to achieve balanced spaces and atmospheres, where the key is to find simplicity in detail, so that the essentiality and uniqueness of each place is discovered.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH PHOTOGRAPHY AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO IT?

Since the years of my training as an architect I’m interested in photography, not so much for its functional representation of the architectural image, but for the autonomy of Photography as a discipline capable of re-conceptualizing a new discourse from Architecture. I am not interested in photography as a reiteration of architectural discourse, but as a medium that allows us to discover new interpretations of urban and architectural reality.

For me, photography is a means of researching and exploring the possibilities that the built urban environment offers to the conceptualization of an architectural project. I am immersed in this interesting process, where I try to develop projects in which architectural concepts can have an origin in photographic reports made in proper places where this has to be built. In this way, the relationship between architecture and photography interests me from the sequence: Photography → Architecture

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON, AND—IF THERE IS—WHAT IS YOUR NEXT PROJECT OR JOURNEY?

I take photographs in parallel to the architectural works I develop. I explore the immediate surroundings and the urban environments of the places where I work, mostly in Barcelona. I am also doing a series that explores the relationship that the historic center of Barcelona establishes with tourist visits: BCN tour.
